for the Week 29-05-2000 Memory Skills Malcolm Gray in his Book " Improve your memory skills" points out a healthy memory works at three levels 1. Level one is the Sensory Level where the information requires no processing but the impressions fade after two seconds. 2. Level two is the Short Term Memory where we process information by saying or thinking words- Impressions fade after 20 seconds 3. Level three is the Long Term Memory. Long Term Memories are permanent. But you can modify and update your long term memory. Our memory has been operating at the Sensory Level and sensory memories last for one second. Some people are twice as talented as others and their sensory memories last for two seconds. Sensory memories are vital to our well being because they help us to express our emotions, giving way to pent up feelings. Long Term Memory consists of two stages 1. Conscious awareness stage " Let me stop and think about it" 2. Automatic Stage - Information passes through the first stage before reaching the second. Remembering and Forgetting are the important features of human mind. If you can never forget unpleasant thoughts your subconscious mind will be confused with thoughts and you will cease to function as a human being. Anon says the only thing in the world you have total control of is your mind. The human brain has more than a billion nerve cells. You have stored innumerable number of memories than you can ever imagine. Memory is the key to your Success. Your mind is the Spirit of your Life. Marilyn Vos Savant says your mind can never be taken away from you and never be given away. It is always yours, under your direct control. So flex your mind, develop it and use it properly. It will enrich your life. By having better memory you can 1.Increase your Vocabulary 2.Develop a Logical mind 3. Accept Challenges and Solve problems.
