you need to know about New Zealand
Passports
Every person arriving in New Zealand must fill in an arrival card.
Passports are required to all visitors, and must be valid for atleast
3 months after the date the visitor intends to leave New Zealand.
Visas
Most nationalities do need visa, please check with the New Zealand
Immigration Service Wellington.
Restrictions
New Zealand
is free from many animal and plant diseases, restrictions are imposed
on the importation of some animal and plant materials. A declaration
will need to be filled out before arrival in New Zealand.
Transport
New Zealand has 3 International Airports- Auckland, Wellington and
Christchurch. Many Airlines fly into the country. Eg. Air France,
Air Nauru, Singapore Airlines, United Airlines, Polynesian Airlines,
Qantas, Canadian Airlines, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, Malaysian
Airlines etc.

Currency
New Zealand has decimal Currency- dollars and cents. Coins
come in denominations of 5c,10c,20c,50c,$1,$2, and notes in denominations
of $5, $10,$20, $50,$100.

Cards
Payments through credit cards are accepted through out New Zealand.
Travellers
Cheques
Travellers cheques can be changed at trading banks, large city
hotels and other trading establishments.
Shopping
The normal hours of shopping are 9a.m to 5 p.m, monday to friday and
from 9a.m to 12.30 saturdays. Many grocery stores open 9a.m to 9 p.m
monday to sunday.
Duty Free
Duty free stores are found at airports and city centres.
Taxes
Goods and Service taxes at 12.5%.

Tax
$20 for departure tax.
Dress
The life style in NZ is very relaxed. The people are very friendly
and caring. You don't have to wear formal dresses to dinners and night
clubs, neat casual clothes are accepted in restaurants as well.
Medical Emergency
The number to dial is 111. Health insurance is strongly recommended.
Drivers Licence
You need to be over the age of 21 to have a full license.
Newspapers and Television Channels
City have minimum of one newspaper and several radio stations. There
are 4 channels in NZ.
Telephone and communications
The standard is very high. The competition is very high. The top carriers

3. Vodofone
Telephone cards are available through stationary stores, grocery stores,
book stores and other shops
Postal Services
Postal service is very effecient in New Zealand. Many countries like
India can learn a lot from this beautiful country. The time is from
9a.m to 5 p.m. monday to friday. Recently there are many contract
stores in and around the city which is opened 7 days.
Tipping
Tipping is not accepted in New Zealand.
Electricity
Electricity supplied at 230 volts, 50 hertz. Most of the sockets are
three pin plugs.
Water
Excellent water supplies. Auckland do have little problem during
summer.
Time
12 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. Day light saving is observed
from October to March.
Population
4
Million People. 80% Europeans of English Descent. 9% Maoris, the rest
are Polynesians, Chinese, Indians, Sri lankans, Middle Eastern, and
other ethnic groups.
Religion
Mostly
Christians, but there are other religious beliefs and faiths in New
Zealand.
Geographical Size
NZ is geograhically similar to the states of California in the USA
and the entire countries of Britain and Japan.
Language
English is the common language of New Zealanders. Maori is now also
an official language.
Weather
The weather in
the North Island ranges from 18 degree to 30 degree during summer.
In the south it ranges from 21 degree to 32 degree. Auckland temperature
around 27 degree during summer. During winter the weather in the North
Island ranges from 5 degree to 15 degree, where as in the south it
goes to 0 -degree to 12 degrees.
New Zealand has more than 40 million sheep. The country is very green.
The people are very friendly. Rugby is the national game. They are
crazy for the game. Beer is the national drink. If you are planning
