What
is hypnosis?
James
Braid is the father of modern hypnosis. He believed that hypnotic
state could be achieved without any magnets. By asking his patients
to focus on a single point of concentration while relevant suggestions
were made. He gave the name hypnosis which he got from
the Greek word 'hypnos' meaning sleep. Hypnosis is not sleep.
It is a deep state of relaxation. In a state of relaxation your
subconscious mind opens up to receive any suggestions.
You have always the right to receive and reject any suggestions.
So hypnosis is not mind control or sleep. Anytime under
hypnosis you can get up. You are fully aware of what is going
on around you. No one has the power to control your mind.
You are the master of your mind.
Though
the name was given by James Braid in the 18th century it was practiced
2000 years ago in Egypt, Persia, Greece, Rome and in India.
No one knows when this came into existence. James Esdaile was
a Scottish born doctor who worked most of his life in India, used
hypnosis for cataract operations. He conducted thousands
of operations successfully through hypnosis.
Everyone
have experienced hypnosis one time or the other. The ability to achieve
the hypnotic state are already within us. It is simply the question
of unlocking the door. When you are hypnotized your left brain
goes to rest and your right brain is now brought into operations.
A hypnotized person still thinks logically, and can make any decisions.
The hypnotized person do not loose contact with reality altogether.
To go into hypnosis you must believe, focus, concentrate and
participate fully. You must direct your attention 200% on the
process and direct your will to co-operate.
Hypnotherapy
helps you to find the inner you, the person you really want to be.
Any emotional problem can be removed if practiced correctly.
Many of the fears, obsessions, phobias are caused by vivid imagination.
So the first step to do is to mentally and physically relax.
By learning to relax you can solve 95% of your problems, because most
of the problems are tension, fear of unknown, anxiety and guilt. Hypnosis
gives you calmness and serenity. Once you practice hypnosis
regularly your anger, tension and irritation will leave you.
You sleep deeply and wake up refreshed.
Progressive
Relaxation Technique
Be
seated comfortably in a chair and relax. Let your hands be on
either side of your legs and your feet a few inches
apart from each other. Focus your eyes to a spot on the ceiling.
Now take a deep breathe hold it for 4 seconds and exhale. Take
another deep breath and exhale and close your eyes. As you breathe
out imagine your breathe flowing through your body, feel the relaxation.
Again take a deep breathe and exhale slowly. Close your eye
lids slightly. Now take a deep breathe tighten your
face muscles, hold it for 3 seconds and as you breathe out relax.
Repeat the same thing for your neck muscles, tighten them as
you breathe out relax, now repeat the same thing for your fore
head, jaw, tongue etc. Just relax. Let all your tension and
anxiety be released completely.
Now relax your shoulder. Get rid of all the tension in your shoulder
area. It feels so good to just relax. Relax your upper
arms, your elbows, your wrists and your hands. Imagine your
fingers are completely relaxed. Feel your breathing and feel
the rhythm of your breathing. Now relax your chest muscles and
all the way down your stomach and hip area. Listen to your breathe
and notice that it is deep and regular. Relax your thigh , knees,
calves and the muscles in your ankles. Allow all the muscles
to continue to relax, as you begin to go into a very deep and relaxed
state. You will feel so good and completely relaxed.
You may experience numbness or a tingling feeling usually in
the arms or legs. Sometimes you may feel light or sometimes
you may feel heavy. If you experience lightness then you will
feel like you are floating above the chair but if you
experience heaviness you feel like you are sinking deep into
the chair with weight in your shoulders. These are the normal
sensation experienced during hypnosis.
Now you are totally relaxed in mind and body.
Repeat
this exercise every day, 15 minutes before you go to sleep.
